Client’s Requirements

The project consisted of the refurbishment of the existing Chellow Lodge building at Lynfield Mount Hospital, Bradford. The building is part of the Bradford District Care Trust estate and operates as inpatient wards for the intensive treatment and care for people who are acutely unwell and cannot have their needs met at home or by services such as day hospitals.

The reconfiguration of the existing building incorporated multiple facilities including:

  • 12 bedroom rehabilitation facilities, each bedroom complete with a new en-suite bathroom.
  • 2 new communal open plan day space retreats
  • Activity room
  • Internal Lounge / Dining Room
  • Conservatory Dinning Area
  • Laundry Room
  • Interview Room
  • Ward Managers Office

Silcock Leedham’s Contribution

Silcock Leedham was appointed as mechanical and electrical services engineers to provide the following services:-

  • Survey of existing services
  • Full detailed design which included modifying and extending the existing systems to suit the new layout
  • Re-design of primary district hot water services to serve all required buildings

Added Value / Unique Selling Points

We ensured that modification work was kept to a minimum. This involved reviewing the M&E contractor variations list and alleviating the majority of the claims.  We were able to reduce this from circa £40k to £2k

We also re-designed the existing district hot water system to overcome a long standing issue (circa 10 years) for the site and helped reduce works for on-site maintenance staff.
